01
Choose calibration for level-to-volume information
A tank calibration table relates liquid level to contained volume for the identified tank and reference conditions. Provide the tank shape, drawings, previous table and details of internal features that affect capacity. Explain whether the problem concerns inventory measurement, a missing table or changes to the tank. Confirm the measurement method and table requirements with the specialist rather than treating nominal capacity as a usable calibration.
02
Choose inspection to establish condition
An inspection scope may address the shell, floor, roof, welds, nozzles, supports or foundation, depending on the tank and the question. Visual findings, thickness measurements and other selected examinations provide different information. State which areas can be accessed and whether the tank is operating or out of service. A limited external examination should not be described as a complete internal condition assessment.
03
Choose integrity assessment for the service decision
Where the question is whether operation can continue, what repair is needed or what should be monitored, request an assessment with an explicit technical basis. Supply operating conditions, materials and design information alongside inspection history. Missing thickness coverage or uncertain design details may require further investigation. Ask the report to distinguish findings, assumptions, limitations and the actions needed to reach a decision.
04
State the access boundary at the start
Identify the stored product, current operating status and site contact responsible for access and isolation. Tank entry requires a separate authorised confined-space system and competent personnel; this guide is not an entry procedure. Scaftech can scope Tank Inspection, Calibration & Integrity around the actual decision. If the concern is a faulty level or temperature instrument, include that separately rather than assuming tank calibration will correct it.
Keep this checklist
Prepare a tank-service enquiry
- Tank IDs, shapes, nominal capacities and stored product.
- Question to resolve: quantity, condition or continued service.
- Drawings, existing capacity tables and inspection history.
- Operating status, known defects and available access.
- Required deliverable, decision owner and work window.
